Somatic Trauma Therapy
November 2026 course - 7 places available (maximum class size 15).
Trauma originates in the nervous system and its ability to deal with stressful events - it does not originate in the event itself. The protective barrier present in the person disappears and leads to overwhelming feelings of helplessness, loss of control and intense fear.
From the very beginning of this course, you will be able to use your skills to alleviate your clients’ distress. By teaching them to observe and track their physical sensations and with the use of simple exercises, you will help them to observe and tolerate the physical sensations that give rise to strong emotions. Quite quickly they can begin to feel calmer, safer and less overwhelmed. You will also be able to explain phenomena of the nervous system to them so that they become curious about how their bodies function and respond as they start to feel better. The beauty of this work is that it enables the client to be a part of their own recovery as they use the tools as and when they need, in order to regain stability when they are alone. Students themselves feel great benefits from the work they do throughout the year.
It can be used by anyone working with individuals that display symptoms of trauma and can often quickly help them begin to feel calmer, safer and less overwhelmed.

"This course was well-taught, grounded, safe and immensely practical. I came away having really integrated some of the core skills after intense amounts of practice, practice, practice with feedback from skilled and supportive tutors. The teaching staff were incredibly generous and supportive and this contributed to an overall feeling of safety and trust within the group. Learning somatic therapy has transformed both my practice and myself as a practitioner. Thank you!" Rachel M (Counsellor)

"The Somatic Trauma Therapy course was life changing. It allowed me to develop much greater levels of observation and awareness, experience implementing techniques and different ways to support clients during the process. Working consistently with fellow students provided the opportunity to experience and learn from a client, practitioner and observer perspective. Under the guide of a mentor, further practice with case studies enabled additional learning and build of confidence. A very special course, taught by incredible people, who give their all, in terms of time, knowledge and expertise." - Nicola Hately (Yasashii Healing, Fife)
