Somatic Trauma Therapy is a very effective way of working with the physical and emotional distress that trauma can cause. It can be used by anyone working with individuals that display symptoms of trauma. To ensure that you feel supported and safe throughout the course we work in triads, with an assistant tutor in each group.

From the beginning of this course you will be able to use your skills to alleviate your clients’ distress. By teaching them to observe and track their physical sensations and with the use of simple exercises, you will help them to observe and tolerate the physical sensations that give rise to strong emotions. Quite quickly they can begin to feel calmer, safer and less overwhelmed. You will also be able to explain phenomena of the nervous system to them so that they become curious about how their bodies function and respond as they start to feel better. The beauty of this work is that it enables the client to be a part of their own recovery as they use the tools as and when they need, in order to regain stability when they are alone.

Your tutor, Simonetta, has over thirty years of experience of working successfully with trauma. She is a qualified practitioner of both Somatic Experiencing© (Peter Levine) and Somatic Trauma Therapy (Babette Rothschild).  Much of our model of working with trauma is informed by the work of Levine and Rothschild, leaders in the field of trauma resolution.

The course is accredited and open to anyone with a practice base in counselling, bodywork or massage and/or who works with people suffering from trauma. The maximum class number is fifteen. Please contact us to arrange an interview prior to booking.

“I really enjoyed both the Introduction to Somatic Therapy workshop - and the STT course. I found the content to be informative without being overwhelming. And, you put it across in a way that I'll be able to share with my clients. I love that you give straight forward explanations and don't hide behind technical jargon.

The size of the group was just right. The practice exercises were good - that right mix of a bit nerve racking and feeling good to have gone through it. A real confidence booster.”

Jan (Counsellor)

“It was amazing. I feel you got a good balance between experiential work and information giving.  You were clear and concise and so helpful in guiding and facilitating client work. If you were to run further workshops on somatic therapy I would certainly love to learn more and would recommend to others. Last week the techniques helped me in working with five clients so what I learnt was put to good use immediately. Really, thank you.”

Rosie (Counsellor, massage therapist)
