The Foundation for Shamanic Studies was incorporated
in 1985 as a non-profit educational organisation dedicated to
the preservation, study and teaching of shamanic knowledge.
Led by its founder, Dr Michael Harner (author of The Way of
the Shaman) and Educational Director, Sandra Ingerman (author
of Soul Retrieval), it is now generally recognised as the foremost
institution in the world engaged in the revival and teaching
of practical shamanism and its application to health and other
problems of daily life. Its field staff of fifteen works with
tribal shamans from the Amazon to Siberia and its international
faculty members teach in twenty-three countries.
"Simon
Buxton is a brilliant teacher, bringing a great deal of heart
and integrity to this work. I am delighted that Simon is teaching
in Britain for the Foundation for Shamanic Studies"

Simon Buxton
introduces participants to core-shamanism – the
universal and near-universal basic methods of the shaman to
enter non-ordinary reality for problem solving, well being and
healing. During this experiential workshop, particular emphasis
will be placed on the classic shamanic journey, one of the most
remarkable visionary methods used by mankind to explore the
hidden universe; otherwise known mainly through myth and dream.
Participants will be initiated into shamanic journeying, aided
by drumming and movement techniques for experiencing the shamanic
state of consciousness and for awakening dormant spiritual abilities
and connections with Nature.
Simon Buxton is Founder/Director of The Sacred Trust and the UK Faculty for The Foundation For Shamanic Studies, the foremost core-shamanic training organisation in the world, directed by Dr Michael Harner. Simon has worked and trained within shamanic traditions for over twenty years, including a thirteen year apprenticeship to a European Bee Master, as detailed within his book The Shamanic Way of the Bee, which was the recipient of the 2005 Canizares Book Award for non-fiction. He is also the co-author of the seminal work Darkness Visible, and his third book, The Serpent Flight of the Honey-Bee is to be published in 2008. Simon is a Fellow of The Royal Anthropological Institute, the world's longest-established scholarly association dedicated to the furtherance of anthropology, and he is based at The Sacred Trust Centre in Dorset, England where he conducts his writing, research and teaching work.
"We
have been delighted to be able to introduce Simon's work to
Scotland, having gained so much ourselves from his teaching.
The year on his course in Classical Shamanism was one of wonder
and change.
Not a "guru", but a true shaman and a
human being with humility, compassion
and a great sense of humour. Simon's teaching combines great integrity with a wealth
of knowledge of shamanic practice."
Ken Fisher and Simonetta Logan
Co-founders of the School of Holistic Therapy
Participants are provided with methods for
journeying to discover their own individual spiritual helpers
and teachers in non-ordinary reality and to study with them,
a classic step in shamanic practice. They will also learn how
the journey can be utilised to restore spiritual power and health,
and how shamanism can be applied to contemporary daily life
to help oneself, others and the Earth. Practices include comparisons
by participants of their discoveries and experiences, as well
as introductory training in shamanic healing and divination.

Shamanic Extraction Training
Advanced Workshop with Simon Buxton
Date: 23/24 February 2008
Venue: The Phoenix Centre, Glasgow
Fee: £145
This is a weekend training which explores the causes of illness from a shamanic perspective. Participants will be initiated into the extraction method of shamanic healing, including how to see, sense and remove localised spiritual illness and pain connected to spiritual factors. You will also learn how to work in partnership to increase the effectiveness of the work. The emphasis of the workshop will be on preparing oneself to undertake serious shamanic work; how to identify and diagnose localised spiritual illness and then how to apply a hands-on technique to accomplish spiritual healing. As part of this workshop there will be a Power Dance on the Saturday evening. This dance is a classic method of awakening our own souls and discovering our own songs and dances.
Please Note:
To attend this training you must have completed the weekend workshop
The Way of the Shaman.
